About Star Lake
Our Camp
Star Lake is a Christian camp operated by The Salvation Army. Our ministry is mainly to children from the New York City area. Due to poverty, family structure and resources, camp is inaccessible to some children. Star Lake provides a low cost opportunity for such children. They can then have an unforgettable week in a growing, learning and fun Christian environment. The goal of our camp is to have each camper see Christ's love in action and to experience activities they cannot do where they live.
Working at Star Lake can be challenging because we invite children to camp who stuggle with boundaries, community living and self control. Therefore, you will be stretched beyond any place you have been before. You will cry, laugh, get tired, be frutstrated, get wet, sing songs, tell stories, clean wounds, give hugs and have life long memories.
Sometimes you will question whether you are making a difference. The bottom line, however, is that if you are willing to serve with all your energy, you can change the direction of a child's life.
Our Program
Each day is packed with exciting activities for the children. Our goal is to plan dynamic events and activities that the children cannot do at home. They may go hiking or rock climbing. They may pet a llama or make a lanyard in arts and crafts. They may hit a target in archery, go boating or swimming in the lake, play volley ball and learn new skills.
At night campers will be part of the "Big Event!" There are programs that are planned by our Program Specialists and carried out by program staff and counselors. These events are filled with songs, skits, high-energy activities and fun. Some events of the past were Pirate Night, Carnival, Olympics, Christ Walk, Staff Night, and Backwards Day.
The common thread that connects everything we do from silly to serious is to offer true hope - Jesus to the children. The campers will have devotions everyday as a group and in their cabin, they will have worship service on the Lord's Day. All staff are expected to set an example in all that they do to facilitate campers receiving Jesus as their savior.
